FAQs

#24MAG (twenty-four magazine) is made for and by creative professionals working in a variety of fields.

Every issue of #24MAG is made in 24 hours.

Big question first: why?
Because we want to make a digital experience with a physical manifestation. Because we believe that creators and makers share unifying archetypes of experience when producing work for a livelihood, on a deadline. Because we believe in grace under pressure. Because we can. Because it’s fun.

Why 24 hours?
When this idea started, 24 hours seemed like a reasonable amount of time to ask of a busy, creative person; we all have our own projects, jobs and lives. Because it means we’re able to broadcast our process from start to finish, live. And because big things can happen on deadlines.

What are the rules?
Only ideas going in: nothing on paper. Nothing that breaks the bubble: no other work, no personal email, no phone calls. A safe creative space: no hatred, no judgement, no assumptions. Faith: in the ability of amazing people to produce amazing work. Documentation: pics or it didn’t happen. Physical proof: a magazine.

How do I preorder the magazine?
Click right here! Buy a print copy of an older issue, pre-order our upcoming edition, or sign up for our mailing list or follow us on Twitter to catch the announcement of the digital copy.

Can I submit something to go in the magazine?
You can buy advertising space (email us if you’re interested), apply with our editor to become a contributor, or follow along with the magazine during production and respond when we ask for suggestions.

There are a ton of time-based projects out there. Why do another one?
Time/event-based magazines like Longshot and Stranded (not to mention projects like 8in8, 24 Hour Plays, The 24-Hour Comic, 24hc, Molly Crabapple’s Week in Hell and many others) have done some amazing stuff. We like what’s out there and want to keep the idea going to see what comes of it, especially when there’s more documentation thrown in the mix.

What is the magazine about?
This is a magazine by creative people, for creative people. Our content revolves around our contributors and the work, people and issues they find interesting. We are at turns meta, personal, professional, rich, hasty, detailed, precise, silly, sexy, elaborate…to be honest, we’ve no idea what the next issue will bring. That’s sort of the point.

Can I help?
Gosh yes. The biggest help you can give us is to preorder the magazine, and to tell your friends about us. But if you have an idea or think there’s something else you could help us out with (like food, equipment, live coverage, spare inspiration, etc.) we’ll be incredibly grateful. Email us!
